Locations

(1) Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary, Lincoln - A Mass Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary, Drumlin Farm is a working farm with a number of enclosures for native wildlife, farm animals, and a butterfly garden.

(2) Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary, Natick - The 624 acres of Broadmoor provide excellent bird watching and wetlands wildlife. Many boardwalk cross the marsh and Mill Pond, and wooded areas follow the Charles River. A wood bridge crosses near the end of Mill Pond and leads to some small cascading waterfalls. A stone bridge and dam are located at the end of the pond.

(3) Arnold Arboretum, Jamaica Plain - Arnold Arboretum is a 265 acre park and America's oldest arboretum. Over 14,000 woody plants adorn it's grounds.

(4) DeCordova Musem and Sculpture Park, Lincoln - Over 75 modern sculptures installed on 35 acres of landscaped grounds abutting Flint's Pond. The facility also houses an art museum.

(5) Codman House, Lincoln - The 16 acres surrounding the Codman House host unique trees and shrubbery, a classic Italian garden, and an English cottage garden.

(6) Boston Harbor Islands, Boston - A diverse group of islands in Boston Harbor. George's Island has Fort Warren, built in 1847. Peddock's Island is the largest in the harbor at 188 acres, and has hiking trails, a pond, a marsh, and 26 buildings of Fort Andrews. Gallops Island has a large rabbit population and historic ruins. Grape Island is a wildlife haven with it's abundance of wild berries. Over a dozen islands offer many different things for the visitors.

(7) Lyman Estate, Waltham - Built in 1793, this country estate's 37 acres is laid out in grand naturalistic design. Several greenhouses date back to 1804 and house exotic camellia shrubs, extensive grape vines and various plants and flowers. The grounds contains a number of exotic trees, a 600-foot row of peach trees, and many rhododendrons and azaleas.

(8) Elm Bank Reservation, Wellesley - 36 acres of gardens and landscaped open fields on the Charles River. Several gardens, greenhouses, cottages and open fields are surrounded by thousands of plants, trees and shrubs. A restored Italianate Garden was originally designed by Frederick Law Olmstead.

(9) Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge - Founded in 1831 as America's first landscaped or gardened cemetery, Mount Auburn Cemetery has been designated as a National Historic Landmark. It's 175 acres are adorned with over 5,500 trees covering over 700 varieties. Thousands of shrubs and herbaceous plants cover the hills, dells, woodlands and clearings.
