Locations
(1) Moore State Park, Paxton - 400 acre state park includes a section which was once the site of several grist and saw mills. A restored saw mill is here, and several foundations still exist along the cascading waterfalls. A small stone bridge crosses the cascades.
(2) Wachusett Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary, Princeton - A 1,200 acre wildlife sanctuary at the base of Mt. Wachusett. 11 miles of trails traverse the sanctuary, some with moderate hiking over the hills. The sanctuary has a 200 acre beaver pond, small ponds, pastures and meadows, many stone walls, glacial erratics, and woodlands. A large and diverse wildlife sanctuary.
(3) Mount Wachusett, Princeton - A 3,000 acre reservation surrounds Mount Wachusett. The summit, at 2,006 feet, is accessible by car and offers long views of central Massachusetts and is a premier hawk-watching site. A clear day will have views of Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire, the Berkshires, and the Boston skyline. Two wildlife sanctuaries, Minns and Mass Audubon's Wachusett Meadows, are located at the base of the mountain.
(4) Botanic Garden of Smith College, Northampton - Thousands of plants, trees, and shrubs arranged among 8 gardens covering 127 acres. Over 2500 species of plants are grown in the Lyman Conservatory, which also houses a large collection of tropical, subtropical, and desert plants.
