Locations

(1) Maudslay State Park, Newburyport - This State Park on the Merrimack River is a beautiful place with a number of features: landscaping, abandoned buildings, open fields, a rose garden, hedge rows, stone bridges, 19th century gardens, and more. A must!

(2) Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, Topsfield - Mass Audubon's largest wildlife sanctuary has forests, meadows, and wetlands along the shore of the Ipswich River. An observation tower and gazebo offer great wildlife viewing spots, as do wooden boardwalks which traverse some wetlands. The Rockery was made by carefully placing large boulders arranged to allow flowers to grow between the rocks. Trails and tunnels run through and around the Rockery.

(3) Halibut Point State Park, Rockport - Old granite quarry in Rockport. Great lookout over the ocean.

(4) Eastern Point Lighthouse, Gloucester - Lighthouse built in 1832 at the head of Gloucester Harbor next to Dog Bar Breakwater. Very close to Mass Audubon's Eastern Point Wildlife Sanctuary and SPNEA's Beauport House.

(5) Stage Fort Park, Gloucester - Stage Fort Park is about halfway down Gloucester harbor, with long views of the harbor and the lighthouse on Ten Pound Island. Two small beaches, earthen berm fort with cannon, and Visitor's Center. Terrific views of the harbor.

(6) Good Harbor Beach, Gloucester - Great beach with sand dunes, boardwalks over the dunes, rocky coastline, wooden footbridge, small island offshore and long views of Thatcher Island and it's lighthouses. Great beach for sunrises.
