Locations
(1) Mt. Greylock State Reservation, Lanesborough - At 3,491 feet, Mount Greylock is the highest peak in Massachusetts. Long views of Vermont, New York, and the town of North Adams. Bascom Lodge, a rustic stone and wood lodge, offers meals and lodging at the summit. The 100-foot tall War Memorial on the summit was originally destined to become a lighthouse in Boston Harbor.
(2) Ashintully Gardens, Tyringham - This 120-acre location includes several gardens blending natural features - a stream, native trees, a small knoll and meadows. Foot bridges, foot paths, stone stairs, and grassy terraces connect these features decorated with statuary, urns, and columns. The site of the ruins of the original mansion offers long views of Tyringham Valley.
(3) Berkshire Botanical Gardens, Stockbridge - Several different gardens highlighting plants native to the Berkshires. Over 3,000 species spread across 15 landscaped acres in 10 different gardens.
(4) Naumkeag, Stockbridge - Originally the summer cottage of the Choate family, Naumkeag is famous for it's 8 acres of terraced gardens and landscaped grounds. Many of the garden is designed into separate "rooms" with various themes. Perhaps the most famous feature of the landscape is Steele's Blue Steps, a series of deep blue fountain pools flanked by four flights of stairs climbing up a gentle hillside and overhung by birch trees. The 44-room "cottage" is filled with original furniture and artwork.
